Governor Bertram Spellings and former Senator Sadie Myers, both Civic Party members from District 3, are refraining from tossing their hat in the presidential ring in deference to fellow District 3 politician Patrick Newsom.
Spellings was considered a potential candidate following his recent reelection to the governorship in the midterms. However, following Senator Newsom’s announcement, he reportedly decided against a run due to his close friendship with Newsom.
Likewise, Myers decided against a run against her former colleague, stating that “Patrick is my friend, and Patrick is best suited to be president. If there’s a way to help him get there, I’m ready to help.”
Both Spellings and Myers are still able to be picked as a VP candidate for the eventual nominee. Unlike the Liberty Party and Labor Party, the Civic Party nominee for president selects their own vice presidential candidate rather than electing them through a primary process.
