Melanie DeFrancis, an editor of The Panem Free Press and formerly the communications director and press secretary for then-Senator Peeta Mellark’s campaign for president, has been selected as the President’s new Press Secretary.
DeFrancis, a veteran of the executive press corps herself, will assume the role previously held by retiring Press Secretary Polaris Septrix.
The pick of DeFrancis is not considered a massive surprise to those close to the administration. DeFrancis was a key player in handling the press coverage of the Mellark campaign and was highly regarded for her work. She was also highly praised for her work at The Panem Free Press, where she served as editor before and after the campaign.
DeFrancis’s nomination to the role of Press Secretary is not subject to Senate approval.
