BREAKING: Multi-billionaire Robert F. Maxwell announced today that he will be challenging incumbent President Rick Canth (Conservative-D7) for his party’s nomination for president of Panem.
Maxwell is currently the CEO of Maxwell Corporation, the largest media conglomerate in the nation of Panem. He also serves as the chair of the Maxwell Foundation, his private charity that he founded. Maxwell had not declared his political affiliation until this point but has donated in the past to several campaigns of various parties, particularly those of Vice President Dale Wilson (Liberty-D4) when he pursued the governorship of Maxwell’s home district of District 4 and when Wilson pursued the vice presidency both times.
Maxwell challenging President Canth for his own party nomination is easily the most surprising political story of a very tumultuous and packed presidential cycle. No incumbent president of Panem has ever been challenged for their party’s nomination before, and while the time seemed ripe for a primary challenge to the scandal-ridden president, no prominent individual was willing to take the chance of ruining their career by doing so.
Maxwell stated this in his announcement address at Maxwell Corp. headquarters today:
“Thank you all very much. I very much wish that I did not have to stand here before you today. Of course, when my country calls for my service, I am pleased to respond to the call, but I wish it were under better circumstances. My friends, we know why I am on this stage today. It is because once again, our government has failed us. President Canth is a failure as our chief executive, and he has turned this nation into a joke. While he is a very nice man, I cannot say he is honorable. He has lied to us. He cheated us from the start- do you remember that bribery scandal at the very beginning of his presidency? He has weakened our national security- see what happened here in this very district only a month ago- and how he has failed to put out any sort of response. It is irritating and aggravating to see that someone who was supposed to hold such promise and hope for our nation, someone who was supposed to bring us into a new direction for our nation is now making headlines, day after day, for scandal after scandal in his administration. No president should have that. It wastes valuable time and taxpayer dollars. The people of Panem deserve so much more than that. And that is why I am on this stage- I am here to help the citizens of Panem make this country great again. I am here to restore Panem from the ashes of the Canth administration. I am here to directly challenge President Rick Canth for the presidential nomination of the Conservative Party of Panem and I am here to become the next President of Panem!”
