BREAKING: Thermonuclear weapon destroys Oceanian capital of Jakarta

BREAKING: A thermonuclear weapon originating from Panem was launched at the nation of Oceania today after many threats to do so. It is the first use of a nuclear weapon since World War III.

It is taught in history books about World War II and the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is also taught about World War III, where nuclear weapons were launched and destroyed massive cities like New York City, Washington, D.C, Tokyo, Moscow, and others. And once again, nuclear weapons have been used even after extreme attempts to avoid such a conflict.

Panem, in retaliation for the Oceanian Alliance’s invasion of District 4 and the terrorist attack that killed thirty thousand innocent civilians at work at Hartt Corporation, launched an extremely powerful thermonuclear weapon at the Oceanian capital of Jakarta. Jakarta was home to forty-five million people and was the world’s largest city. It is estimated that around forty-two million deaths were incurred along with devastation of the Oceanian government, military, and infrastructure.

Such a decision was not taken lightly, nor was it a choice made alone. President Katniss Everdeen consulted heavily with the Council of Nations and with other allied foreign leaders before making the “last resort” decision.

UPDATE: It is reported that the provincial governor of Jakarta (the province, not the city) has become acting president in the absence of a leader and has declared a surrender to Panem-allied forces. It is also stated that Oceanian Alliance forces in Europe have surrendered, fearing a nuclear attack on the Polish-Ukrainian Republic.

The President of Panem, Katniss Everdeen, delivered a statement:

“I can say without a doubt that the atrocity called World War IV is now finished, but not without a severe cost. It cost us millions of lives, and damaged many more. It will certainly weigh on me for the rest of my life. We deeply regret the loss of life in Jakarta, but how soon would it have been until such loss of life occurred inside our borders?”
