Vice President Heavensbee opts out of second term

In yet another unexpected turn of events in Panem politics, Vice President Plutarch Heavensbee has announced that he will not seek a second term as Vice President of the Republic of Panem.

This sets off a landslide of political decisions as the Labor Party and People for Panem see an opening to win the nation’s second-highest office. However, it also sets up a fierce contest between many within the Liberty Party, of which Heavensbee is currently a member.

Heavensbee attributed the need for a private life after serving for nearly a decade in Panem politics to be a major factor in his decision to not seek reelection. However, he was also facing a tough reelection campaign against generic nominees of the Labor Party and People for Panem, and District 2 Governor Gale Hawthorne was rumored to be considering a primary challenge to the incumbent Vice President.

Potential candidates from the Liberty Party include District 2 Governor Gale Hawthorne, Secretary of Defense Jonathan Madison, Secretary of State Celine Oswald, and District 4 Governor Dale Wilson.
